Ummati
by Saaleha Bhamjee
RSA

In every sacred deed
In every sacred step
In every sacred word
And every sacred breath

Ummati is infused
Ummati pervades
Ummati dominates
Ummati determines

From the very first day
To the bloody shoes of Taif
To the lost teeth of Uhud
To the very last breath
To the plains of Hashr

Ummati, Ummati
The cries of the soul
Troubled
In blissful agony
Of obedience

Yet Ummati flounders
Ummati blunders
Ummati forgets
Ummati ignores

Forgets the pain
Of the stones at Taif
The spears of Uhud
The agonies of death
The dread of Hashr

Ummati
Ummati
A cry in the wilderness
Of stony hearts
And greedy souls

Ummati
Ummati
