Mum and Dad
by Azim Halim
UK

To my dearest and most beloved mum and dad,
Because of me, I'm sorry for all the grief you've had.
The last thing I ever wanted, was for you to feel hurt,
But I'm ever so grateful, that to me you gave birth.

You made your own lives harder, just to make mine easier,
And you've always been there for me, whenever I've needed you.
When I was ill you never left my side,
And after I'd fallen asleep, in your own room you'd go and cry.

I look back at all the things you've done for me,
Way back to when you collected me from nursery.
The same applied throughout my school years,
For me to have a better future, you both shed many silent tears.

Within you my father, I realised what it takes to be a real man,
Honesty, integrity, along with a whole lot of responsibility.
I know it's a little late, but I understand that now,

You taught me many lessons, which at the time,
I never knew would become so precious.
You'd always offer me money, but I couldn't accept it,
Just for the knowledge and wisdom that you've passed onto me,
For the rest of my life I feel indebted.
