The Shadow Moves
by Corey Habbas
USA

The lunar calendar unfolds in place.
The moon, a sliver of light encased
in shadow that hides its graceful face
glowing a sun-drenched yellow.

Sunlight creates an evening window
this month pouring a honey yellow,
dripping it's light over the moon aglow,
a light under which we will study The Word.

The angel had spoken a message unheard
…Read! to a man, who in word, had lumbered illiterate,
our Prophet, and a miracle he answered and read the
poetry of Allah after Jibril's embrace.

I revert inward into the discipline of Allah's grace
and onward in an effort to increase my faith
the waterfalls give the world wudu in this place
as I sacrifice to learn that which can be sacrifice.

After denying myself for Allah's sake
my understanding that to sacrifice in life
for the love of one another moves the shadow into a full shape.
