Genocide
by Munira Anas
USA

When we live through it, we pretend it's not there,
And we turn a blind eye, and we just don't care.
And when it's over, we look at all the damage and we ask:
Why, when it was all in our hands, did we ignore the task?

How could we let it fall into the hands of devils when we had our chance?

When we live through it, we pretend it's not there,
And we turn a blind eye, and we just don't care.
And when it's over, we look at all the damage and we ask:
Why, when it was all in our hands, did we ignore the task?

How could we let it fall into the hands of devils when we had our chance?
Instead of fighting in battle array, we maintained our stance.
Now all we have left is regret,
And the books and movies make us fret.

But we forget that there are people who had to endure
The scenes we only watch on TV, after having closed the door
To humanity, compassion, and any sense of love.
And we finally realize how much we have to be ashamed of.

But by then it's too late, too many people have died,
Men, women and children who wanted us on their side!
But instead of turning to them, we turned away,
And allowed 500 people to be murdered everyday.

But wait a second; it's not over yet,
And we still have that chance before we regret.
Then why not take advantage of it, and be HUMAN?
We fail to realize this isn't just kindness, but our obligation!

So before we look back and count the losses,
Why don't we try to be our own bosses?
Before we cry, mourning a genocide that already hit,
Why don't we step up once and for all to stop it?

Deceptive Dunya

We fight and we strive
We do our best to survive
All the calamities that we see
We do nothing but plea
What have we done in His Name?
Nothing, ourselves only to blame!
We take little responsibility
For our reckless activity

Our Ummah is weak
Only in vain do we speak
We preach to others to be righteous,
Conceal our devious actions,
Fulfilling our own satisfactions,
Consumed by mundane distractions.

The guidance of Allah we ask for
The door to His mercy
Our heart implores.

We prostrate to the floor
In humble worship
Hoping his forgiveness is in store
The glad tidings of jannah we await
But Wait
We wake and realize
That this is the last day
Oh my, what will I say?
We see ourselves being gathered
In our minds we ponder
What did we do for Allah?
We were only concerned with our desires
Taking account that we were liars
Oh No,
No time to negotiate!
Oh No it is my turn!
Oh Allah, I ask Thee
For Thou Rahma
Let me be among those
That smells the fragrance of Thy sweet abode
Which Thou has bestowed
For the ones who reflect and know
And worship Thee alone.

Our plea is useless and then He will ask
What have you done for Thy sake

For your benefit and mine
I hope at least an atoms weight!
For now it is just too late!

Imagine

Imagine a world engulfed in a loss of reason

Whose inhabitants follow their whims and passions

A trail of Satan's treason

Families torn over a greedy life of comfort

Parents working extra just to attain unneeded pleasures

Cars of luxury, homes of great vacancy

Leaving children emotionally and spiritually starved

Seemingly healthy on the outside

But dying within

Tears of pain falling quickly like drops of rain

Falling hard atop the rusted window pane leaving a noticeable stain

A stain on the heart...on the mind

Imagine this world...

A silent killer destroying all from within

Entrenching itself deep within the wombs of the society

Attaching to the ranks of our young spiritual soldiers

Every family giving birth to a contagious disease

Lust, greed, luxury, laziness, dishonesty

A cancerous disease spreading quickly like wild flame

Distinct, dangerous, deliberate, disgusting

Imagine this havoc...

A weak society dying slowly but quick

A people enticed by everything but the truth

Till death comes, only then will they realize

They will regret the Truth that they had once despised

Imagine the torment...

Screaming in anguish, they cannot take the pain

Cries, cringes, a crippling creed

The paralyzing constriction spreading quickly like acid rain

Atop dense forest trees, once bountiful and healthy

Now a drooping and dying dread

Do you not see them crying?

The young children barely speak

Yet already overwhelmed by the evil effects of the material

Tormented by the wicked army of Satan

MTV, Bratz, and internet galore

Imagine the hypocrisy...

Watching CNN on a wide screen with surround sound

Complaining about problems a world away

Yet completely oblivious to our own dire situation

Imagine?

Who said we need to imagine?

We only need to look at the local mosque to see this reality of implementation

Yes we must free Palestine, Iraq, and Arabia

But realize that we must free ourselves and our own

From the talons of the strong Satan

Understand this, do not imagine...

This is a demand, not a request nor a cry of spite

For it is a command from our Creator in the Quran, our Book of Light

Of the numerous conflicts around the globe today,
The Middle East is home to humanity's decay.
Muslims, Christians, Jews with claims to the Holy Land,
Each group trying forcefully to gain through demand.

Occupation is the reason of such malevolent combat,
The year '48 brought many crying on their prayer mats.
Their land was occupied, simply taken away,
They retaliated, killing innocent on holidays.

The battling has continued, blood anything but rare,
The religious flock to their houses of prayer.
Not a solution has come into place,
All citizens try to keep a straight face.

We are all humans; we must not further divide,
Yet the apartheid wall only puts peace plans aside.
All must come together, and unite as humanity,
All fighting must cease; we must avoid insanity.

The Tree
by Haroon Hasan
USA

It was the tree with roots hidden,
Lain there by children before.
Time does take its toll,
On restless hearts and quivering souls.

A full grown tree taught them patience,
For success lies in its roots.

Time does take its toll,
On restless hearts and quivering souls.

A full grown tree taught them patience,
For success lies in its roots.
"Mama! Mama!" cried little Zakir,
As he and his sister danced in circles,

Around the exquisite apples, as golden as the sun.
"Be patient, my sweet!", whispers mother so elegant,
"I planted this tree, longing for it as you await yours!"
They wanted their tree to sprout in no time,

Unable to realize the blessings of patience.
But how delicious is success, might you ask?
As sweet as an apple, an impatient child.
