Allah, In Your Love
by Umara Saleem
USA

I traveled on hand and knee
Upon the scorching unconquerable deserts

When I had my head turned away from You
The famine in my soul, unquenched,
Remained with Your every bounty

There was a ripping of my soul
With my descent away from You

I traveled on hand and knee
Upon the scorching unconquerable deserts

When I had my head turned away from You
The famine in my soul, unquenched,
Remained with Your every bounty

There was a ripping of my soul
With my descent away from You
Like the Moon loses a part of itself
As it leaves its rightful place

The sweet Winds carried your name to my body
Falling upon my self made deaf ears

I was Ignorance
A hollow reed

I tried to stomp my connection
But my ever faithful soul
Escaped my treacherous body
And flew to Your keep
My every cell cried Your love

My heart was senseless
Without Your presence

Still, life reverberated in me
Held up by inescapable threads
That will always bind me to You

With Your infinite touch
My thirsty eyes drink sunrises, sunsets
Captured, enraptured by Your beauty

My smiles pay homage to Your greatness
My ears are ever alert
Seeking threads of Your praises
Spoken by Your lovers
Both Man and Nature

Weak, lonely
Lost

In need of your guidance,
Your mercy, your
Love

In need of
Remembering
You

My heart yearns for that closeness
That once defined me
That awareness
That peace
Only from
You

My first thought each morning
My last each night
You - my all
Without
You
I
Am
Not

Not worthy of life

Hope burning brightly
Fear so real
Your Mercy
Or Wrath
Guide
Me

Your pleasure
I seek

Your love
I need

My tears
Fall

You are
My

Mold
by K. Nawaal Gratwick
South Africa

You took the dregs,
Encrusted, en-rusted,

You took the mold,
En-stench-ed, en-trenched,

And then manipulated,
Brain-washed, brain-dumped,
Making the me, new,
Old residue, new,
Same-ly visible, new,

How miraculous is your hand,
How fantastic your plan, Read More

You took the mold,

And then manipulated,
Brain-washed, brain-dumped,
Making the me, new,
Old residue, new,
Same-ly visible, new,

How miraculous is your hand,
How fantastic your plan,

Speechless and breathless I stand,
Awed at the majesty of your span,

Ah, you've outsmarted the smarts in me,
Outrun the runner in me,
Outdone all that I am,
Revealing the sight of your hand,

And I submit, whole-heartedly,
Gills and wings, pipedreams and all,

Near-sighted that I am,
Hear-say and time-blighted that I can, Be

And with all that I am,
I bow down to your call, awed

Forever, Amen.

When Will We Meet Again?

"Ya Allah, possessor of my soul,
The Knower of the secrets of hearts...
When will we meet again? "

I count the days that will be my lifetime,
Walking with intention.
Praying I will be
close to you once again.

Friendships, relationships, dance and weave,
Fade in and out of my lifetime.
These tests will be just like a dream,
No matter now, how real they seem.

"Ya Allah, possessor of my soul,
The Knower of things hidden...
When will we meet again?"

Will I be worthy?
Will I be pure?
This is my worry, this is my fear,
Will I meet You with a heart sincere?

I search for You in all that I do.
Trying to keep my intention true.
But still, it's a struggle against my nafs.

Even though my knowledge seems to grow,
I find the same struggle with my desires.
The purification seems so slow,
To put out those inner fires.

Let the last of my actions,
Be the best of my actions.

And when it's time to meet You again,
Let it be when and only when...
I have tasted the true sweetness of Faith.

When I live by Your Din,
When I establish Your Word,
When I become an Ambassador to the Ambassador,
(Sallullaho Alayhi WaSallam).
Let it be then, walking with intention,
That I take my last breath.

Ya Allah, let me use Your beautiful loan, To race to do good with all I own.
And let me win this dream-like race.
With the beautiful reality of Your Face.

"Ya Allah, possessor of my soul,
The Knower of things hidden...
When will we meet again? "
