Review Criteria
The following is a set of criteria our reviewers will use to decide whether a poem should be posted on IslamicPoetry.org. We hope this will assist writers wishing to submit their poetry and make posting decisions less subjective for our reviewers.
- The poem should not go against any Islamic principles.
- The submission should read more like poetry rather than prose in an obvious manner -- there are instances in which poetry will read like prose.
- The poem should inspire towards good or at least enlighten toward reality.
- The poem should have a positive message or at least not have
a negative one. - The poem should have a positive message or at least not have
a negative one. - The poem should not in anyway go against Islamic etiquette (adab).
- The poem should either enjoin good, forbid evil, or at least increase one in the Remembrance of Allah. This point is very important.
Review Guidelines/Poetic Elements & Devices
The following are scored from 1 to 5.
- Uses Descriptive Words
- Grammatically Sound
- Orally Pleasing (when read aloud)
- Impact (inspirational, invokes emtion)
- Poem relates well to category
- Clarity of poem
- Originality of poem relating to category
- Appropriateness of title
The professional showcase would feature the very best of the poems submitted to IslamicPoetry.org, as well as the work of known or published writers. Professional writers submitting to the professional showcase would still be subject to the initial submission and review criteria.

Terms & Conditions
All are allowed to submit poetry. All submitted poems will be reviewed and approved by at least two of our reviewers prior to posting on our site. IslamicPoetry.org reserves the right to delete any inappropriate material or refuse to post any material not matching our criteria above.
The review process could take up to two weeks for each poem submitted. Once your entries are successfully submitted to our system you will be sent a confirmation email from ourselves. Receipt of this confirmation is subject to the provision of your correct email address and your email account being capable of accepting new mail (and not over quota or using a restrictive anti-spam device, etc.).
You are responsible for completing the submission process correctly and alerting us to any problems you encounter. IslamicPoetry.org accepts no liability for poems not received due to a failure on your part to follow the online instructions correctly.
Once a poem is approved an email notification will be sent to you . The routine will be the same for rejected entries. If you do not hear back from us within two weeks of your submission then please feel free to contact us.
The content of all submissions to IslamicPoetry.org should be related to the categories provided. However, feel free to suggest additional categories. Final decisions for allocations to a particular category remain with our reviewers.
Each post will include the name of the author, their city and country of residence and the date posted to the website.
To make changes to any poetry after it has been posted, the author may submit such a request via email to us. Such requests will be honored a limited number of times.
The poems must be in English. If you submit an English translation of other than your own work, you are responsible for obtaining permission to translate the original if one is required.
Worldwide copyright of each submission remains with the author, but IslamicPoetry.org will have the unrestricted right to publish any submitted poems on the IslamicPoetry.org website where they will remain indefinitely or as part of a printed collection by a Muslim book publisher of our choice.
The poem must be the original work of the entrant and must never before have been published in a book or anthology, though they may have been previously published in a magazine, journal, periodical, or website. Poems may be simultaneously submitted for consideration in a magazine, journal, or periodical.
